Welcome to Day 365 of our Life Journal!
Click here for today’s reading: Revelation 19; Revelation 20; Revelation 21; Revelation 22 2012 Daily Bible Reading Plan)
Before you comment or read what I have posted, please read the following passages for yourself and complete your own S.O.A.P. exercise… How does this work?
S.O.A.P = Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer
Revelation 19:6, “Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting:
For our Lord God Almighty reigns.
Let us rejoice and be glad
and give him glory!
For the wedding of the Lamb has come,
and his bride has made herself ready.”
Revelation 20:10, “And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.”
Revelation 21:6, “He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life. 7 He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son.
8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”
Revelation 22:12, “Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.”
20 “He who testifies to these things says, ‘Yes, I am coming soon.’ [quickly]
Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.
21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen.”
I love how Revelation culminates with the declaration of Christ’s return!
Actually, the NIV translation of “soon” is not great. The KJV or NASB both prefer “quickly.” “Speedily” (without delay) is even better than “soon.” It’s more HOW he will come than the timeframe in which it will happen.
Having said that, it’s been 2,000 years! What’s he waiting on??
He is waiting for the spread of the Gospel all across the earth.
The earth’s population is around 7 billion at this time. The highest in history. More souls on this earth than ever. More believers than ever.
More sin than ever…
2 Peter 3:9 states, “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”
When Jesus spoke of his return in Matthew 24…
“No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 37 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 40 Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left. 42
“Therefore keep watch,
… because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. 43 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. 44 So you also must be ready, because…
the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.”
Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.
