Welcome to Day 358 of our Life Journal!
Before you comment or read what I have posted, please read the following passages for yourself and complete your own S.O.A.P. exercise… How does this work?
S.O.A.P = Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer
John 19:16, “Finally Pilate handed him over to them to be crucified.”
John 20:24, [Thomas] “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe it.”
John 21:6, “He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.”
I love how Jesus revisits the miracle of a large catch of fish. Great symmetry.
In Luke 5, Jesus was teaching by a lake and asked Peter if he could teach from his boat…
Peter agreed, then, after Jesus was finished teaching, he told Peter to go to deeper water for a catch, to which Peter replied that they had fished all night with no luck.
Jesus told Peter to let down his nets and he caught such a large number of fish that his nets began to break!
Then, after the Crucifixion, Jesus appeared to the disciples as they were out fishing, again, all night, with no catch, until Jesus showed up and told them to let down their nets on the right side of the boat. They caught 153 LARGE fish. (I love that they counted them!)
I love the symmetry in this story… but more than that, it’s a great story of what can happen when Jesus shows up in a life.
I can be doing what I am good at, but when Jesus shows up, after I have fished all night with no catch, he can fill my nets in one moment.
When you get discouraged and tired, remember, “153 LARGE fish.” Recite this to yourself… “153 LARGE fish.”
“153 LARGE fish.”
“153 LARGE fish.”
When it happens, you will know… it’s Jesus.
Thank you Lord that I can trust you every step along the way!
