Before you comment or read what I have posted, please read the following passages for yourself and complete your own S.O.A.P. exercise… How does this work?

Ezra 9:15, “O Lord, God of Israel, you are righteous! We are left this day as a remnant. Here we are before you in our guilt, though because of it

not one of us can stand in your presence.”

Ezra 10:14, “Then let everyone in our towns who has married a foreign woman come at a set time, along with the elders and judges of each town, until the fierce anger of our God in this matter is turned away from us.”

44 “All these had married foreign women, and some of them had children by these wives.”

Psalms 131:3, “O Israel, put your hope in the Lord both now and forevermore.”

Luke 21:34, “Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with dissipation, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you unexpectedly like a trap.”

“For it will come upon all people everywhere on earth.”

O bservation

Interesting… don’t get caught up in too much feasting and drinking, yet, don’t worry too much. Be watchful…

A pplication

“For it will come upon all people everywhere on earth.”

That is a bold statement right there. It’s not maybe or might. “It will…” It’s gonna happen, at some point, eventually, without question.

Believers have been waiting for 2,000 years for this (that) day to come.

Unbelievers have been scoffing at the idea as well.

Either what Jesus said, is true and right, or not.

If it is true, then it IS going to happen. And it will happen fast, “like a trap!”

I don’t wish that upon anybody, not even my worst enemy…

People scoffed at Jesus even after he healed someone. The religious leaders said he cast out Satan by the power of Satan himself. That’s where we get the famous Abraham Lincoln quote, “A house divided against itself can not stand.” (Yes, that came from the Bible! : )

It’s always interesting to have a reminder like this… as one stumbles upon the scripture, out of nowhere, that’s exactly how the day will be. “As a thief in the night.”

A recurring theme in this blog has been, “Be ready.” All throughout the book of Revelation and previous trips through the Gospels, that theme has presented itself. Just as the virgins should have had their lamps trimmed and ready, we are to be ready. Otherwise, we may miss the wedding…

This little light of mine… I’m gonna let it shine…

P rayer

May I always be ready, Lord…

  1. Ezra 9:15 here we are before you in our guilt though no one can stand in your presence. Luke 21:18 but not a hair on your head will perish. 33) heaven and earth will pass away but my words shall not pass away. Ezra carried the weight of the sins of the people. So weighted he pulled his hair and beard out. I cannot imagine that (the hair part of course) he didn’t want God’s wrath to fall on his people and he went before God, face down hands out pleading. I’m grateful that I can come boldly before His throne to as anything of Him. Grateful I can stand in His Presence and feel the love of my King. Thank you Fatger

  2. “Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.”

This always catches my attention since clearly that generation has passed away and many more since. This is one of those things that opponent to the Bible will use to try to poke holes in it. To put this in perspective, I looked at the commentaries. The Reformation Study Bible says:

The Greek word usually means all the people alive at a given time, but it can also mean all of a certain kind of people (e.g., wicked or righteous). The term can also mean “race”; if this is the meaning here it signifies that the Jews will continue to the end.

That seems to clear it up.

“Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap. For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth. Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”

Before this, we learned that we should will know that it is coming just like we can tell the seasons are changing. We need to remain sober and alert so that we are not caught off guard. It seems to me that Jesus was trying to calm them (and us) down so that we don’t become preoccupied with the end.

Reading things like this seem very gloom and doom and can quickly cause fear. But…

When these things begin to happen, lift up your heads because you have been bought by the blood of Christ and will soon be free.”

Lord, thank you for buying me with Your blood. I can’t fathom the cost, and I’m amazed that you think I am worth it. Help me to be occupied on the present. Leading others to you and breaking the chains that Satan puts on us.
