Vineyard Life Journal

An online forum for our church family to connect around our 2012 daily Bible reading plan using the S.O.A.P. method.

Hang in there!

As we near the end of our first month, I just wanted to encourage you to hang in there!

I am publicly committed to this blog, which gives me little license to skip a day here and there… But last year, I struggled to keep up, just like most people. I’d miss a day and try to make it up the next… But what I have found, is that it is much easier over the long haul to simply make time each day.

I’d like to encourage you to do the same. It was so discouraging to fall behind… then someone asks you about how your reading is going and you might feel a little embarrassed when they do. Or you hear others talking about their reading when you have fallen behind a few days…

I’ve heard several people say they’ve kept up with their reading but not the journaling. Take that extra few minutes and jot down what stood out to you, how it applies to your life and the prayer that comes out of it. There’s something about simply writing it down…

Don’t get discouraged. Hang in there!

Does any of this resonate with you and your experience thus far?

Thank you, Scott, for taking the time to post this daily. It has helped me to create a habit. Daily, I open up my email in the morning, pull up the scripture reading that you have posted, open my Bible and my journal, ask the Lord to speak to me and begin to read.

This is a habit that I never want to break!

I use the Life Journal reading plan in the YouVersion bible app on my iPad and did a different year through the bible plan last year. I’m getting so much more out of it this time due to the journaling and the “community” here in this forum and so many in the church being on this journey together.

@Mark-The community aspect is huge for me too! It is so exciting to know that we are on this journey together as a church. I am so anxious to see how God moves through our church this year.

  3. We are 1/12th the way through! Way to go, peeps!

I love all your thoughts and comments. You give me a different take on things–having been a Christian since I was 9 it’s easy to coast through the passages and have the “go to” interpretation foremost in my thoughts. Your observations and comments sometimes stop me short and I think, “wow!”

To all you out there who are just reading but never post, can I challenge you to join in!? You may have the observation or application someone really needs!

Thanks to you, too, Scott! You’ve made quite a commitment–but I know you’ll be blessed for it!

I was almost ready to just quit I am so far behind. Thanks for this email. Is that you and your wife? I went to the doctor for a shot in my back today. He was running so far behind I got 2.5 hours of Bible Study and journaling in.

I’m really enjoying the Life Journal Experience. I like to check our your journal after I finish mine. Sometimes Dave and I can’t quite figure something out, then we might find our answer either through Scott or someone else that has commented. This is much easier than I thought it would be. However, I missed journaling this weekend and I took time yesterday to catch up. I’m glad I did. Thanks for posting daily.

  6. Thanks Scott for being constant in season and out of season. Your example encourages me greatly.

  7. Thanks for commenting everybody. I appreciate your letting me know you are stopping by, even if just to peek in!
